WINE WALK
Dear Friends and Neighbors

Last year was a year like no other in recent memory. There were pains, disruptions, and tragedies that caused each of us to take a step back and examine our responsibilities to the communities we serve. As the owner of more than 400 retail properties nationwide, including Cameron Village (“Village District”) and 12 other retail destinations in the Triangle, Regency Centers believes it is incumbent upon our company to ensure this moment encourages a more inclusive future.
In Raleigh, Regency has made great efforts to listen and better understand history about the name Cameron Village that has been overlooked for generations. As a result, we are announcing the decision to remove the Cameron name from one of Raleigh’s most iconic landmarks. From now on, this destination will be known as the “Village District.” This new brand represents Regency’s commitment to a welcoming environment for all of our patrons, neighbors, merchants, and employees. The “Village District” also represents a district of merchants dedicated to serving the diverse patrons who live in and visit our city every day.
Changing the name of this storied property to the “Village District” was not a decision taken lightly. Regency would like to thank the York family for their continued care of the “Village District” and their support of the name change. The Yorks have invested generations of time and passion in creating and managing a place where Raleigh can gather.
Regency is especially grateful to our community partners, including the Friends of Oberlin Village, who were instrumental in our research, discovery, and conversations about the history of the community. We continue to be a proud supporter of the Friends of Oberlin Village in their commitment to protect the legacy of this area.
In November, Regency made a multi-year commitment to the group, including monetary support for the Oberlin Village cemetery and the addition of historical plaques. Further, Regency is donating space at the “Village District” for a storytelling installation that will allow the history of Oberlin Village to be shared with all of those who shop here.
