Cameron Village 70th Anniversary Celebration

70 years of fun shopping and great dining calls for a celebration! It’s playtime, Raleigh!

In 1949 Cameron Village made history as the first shopping center between Atlanta and D.C. In 2019, Cameron Village remains a hub of style in North Carolina. This fall, we celebrate the legacy of the Village and all it means to our state. In honor of Cameron Village’s 70th anniversary, join us to play some tunes and some games. Learn how some incredible kid musicians play songs that capture the beat of life in Raleigh today.

Save the dates, October 11-19, 2019. Cameron Village Merchants Association Executive Director Pat Boyle says the sidewalks of the Village will be transformed like never before. “For 70 years our guests have shopped at Cameron Village and most see shopping as a form of play. We are just adding to the fun. We invite the community to come celebrate our birthday with us. Let’s have fun and enjoy all forms of play,” Boyle says.

Without giving too much away, Boyle gives a preview of the festivities, “Expect a number of surprises along with hopscotch, hula hoops, ping pong tables and Twister, all on the Cameron Village sidewalks!” Around our shops and restaurants, ten custom designed pianos, painted by local artists, are free for you to tickle the ivories. Stop by to hear local musicians show off their skills. Bust a move and play a tune on our giant piano stairs!

Give back through play as Cameron Village proudly partners with the Community Music School of Raleigh. CMS, a treasured Raleigh institution now celebrating its 25th Anniversary, gives a voice to the next generation of local musicians. Boyle says, “We love their mission, bringing music in the form of instruments and lessons to the underserved in our community. Music with play is an unbeatable and uplifting experience!” A non-profit 501c3, CMS provides opportunities for children and teens with limited financial resources to receive one-on-one music instruction in orchestral and band instruments, voice, piano, percussion, harp, or guitar. Instruments are provided for students’ use free of charge during their enrollment. Faculty are highly accomplished professional musicians and educators to make sure the beat goes on for the next 70 years.

It’s your turn to play! This exciting community celebration will be free of charge to the public. Don’t forget to follow along on Social Media using #70YearsofCV to see images from the Village through the years and more of the celebration.

Celebrate what makes Cameron Village such an enduring, iconic location in Raleigh. Boyle explains that what makes the Village special is the family feeling along our sidewalks. She says, “We are unique, unique merchants, unique products, unique service! We are a family of merchants, serving families in our community.”

Come play with us! We promise you haven’t had this much fun playing in 70 years!
